Phoenix, AZ — Onward Hope, Inc., a Phoenix based non-profit organization, is launching it’s newest Teen Transition program: Camp 1 Promise, a Resiliency Camp, dedicated to help teens in foster care, ages 14-17.
With five years of continuous commitment, Onward Hope, Inc. is the only foster care, adoption, and transition services agency, that was founded and ran by two sisters, who were in Arizona’s Foster Care System.
Since 2014, Onward Hope, Inc. has provided a welcoming agency for those want become licensed foster parent and certified adoptive parents, to meet the high needs of the over burdened foster care system, assist in reunification through parenting education, skills training, and supervised visitation for biological parents, whose children have been removed.
In 2018, Onward Hope, Inc. refocused the organization to meet the unique needs of teens and young adults transitioning out of foster care, serving ages 14-29. Launching several programs, Transition Coaching, Mentoring, Hope Fund, Design-On-A-Dime Kits, Drop In Center, Internship & Career Readiness programs, two career credentials/certification programs and Independent Living University, and more; Camp 1 Promise is the newest addition to these amazing programs. Camp 1 Promise focuses on areas: Self-Identify & Empowerment, Supportive Networks & Healthy Relationships, Coping Skills & Practical Life Skills and Failing Forward & Being Future Focused.
“We want to serve the youth and young adults, who aren’t being served by other organizations. Not every youth is ready to go to school or work, many need foundational support, practical living and coping skills, in order to be successful in other areas of their lives,” says Onward Hope, Inc. founder and CEO Eshawn Peterson. “Camp 1 Promise is a chance for teens from foster care, to be with other teens who are going through similar experiences, and gives them a safe space to start to work on the foundational needs, so they can be focused on a healthy and happy future.”
Eshawn Peterson speaks about Camp 1 Promise being a labor of love. “All of us at Onward Hope have a very personal stake in the successful transition of teens and support of alumni of foster care, because we know first-hand, having been in their shoes, how hard it can be to transition with little to no support.”
Onward Hope, Inc. is Action Oriented- empowering & connecting youth today for a strong future tomorrow, by putting together concrete supports, know-how and actual dedicated person to allow youth to do more than survive foster care – thrive after foster care.
